Meet the Artist May 28th Saturday from 1-3pm
A rare event is happening at Patton Valley Vineyard during Memorial Day weekend.
Local Portland artist, Sam Roloff, will be at the tasting room to talk with you in person and share a wonderful glass of Patton Valley Pinot Noir. His recent works have been created using custom paints that contain soil samples of the Willamette Valley. The series on display at the winery is based on the Laurelwood soil found at Patton Valley Vineyard, Lot #3301.
The process involves digging down to about 24 inches of depth in the vineyard where the soil is collected. The soil is then dried and pounded into a fine dust which is sifted through a nylon stocking. At this point the soil is loosely sprinkled on top of a canvas and adhered with spray mount glue.
Layer after layer is adhered and built up to reveal the beautiful color of the natural soil. This artistic process reveals an original style of oil painting created by Sam Roloff.
