Open Studio

Mark your calendars for March 12th Friday 2010. A lot of friends and patrons have been asking when is the best time to stop by to take a peak at what I am currently working on so I decided that it would be easiest to hold an open studio every Friday night.

This will be a very informal relaxing time to drink a glass of wine and talk art. I have also heard from a bunch of you that you would be interested in talking some painting classes here,  so I will have a sign up sheet and we can discuss what days work best for everyone.

Who: Artsit Sam Roloff
What: Open Studio & Wine Tasting
When: 2 to 8pm Every Friday, This Friday is the first of many to come.
Where: 10345 NW Flotoma Drive Portland Oregon 97229

Art Flag

I need an art flag so I can hang it on the front of the house so patrons will know when the studio is open.

Valentine's Day and Max's Balloon Painting

This painting was started by my son Max (11) from his Balloons painting. I then just painted over parts by putting a version of a much older painting called "Lara's Valentine's Day" that was lost in Prague back in 1994.

Explaining a new process in painting.

The exhibition I am currently working on for a painting is more of a performance piece. The oil painting is a portrait of Amanda Knox, the girl form Seattle who just got sentenced to life for murder of her roommate while in Italy.

The painting is being shown in public right now but on March 1st 2010 the painting will go back into hiding till the date of the next event at which point it will be held hostage with a ransom of $2000. If the ransom is not paid by 7pm the night of the opening by a person wanting to buy it, then it will be allowed by the artist to be painted and drawn over by anyone who wants to write what ever they like on top of it. Words like “Guilty”, “Innocent” or “Murderer” might be used by the public to express their outrage to the situation. Basically the punishment for the ransom not being met will be a public defacing of Amanda Knox.

The painting will then be taken again and the artist will paint an abstract landscape type painting over the portrait and the comments made by the public. All these steps will be extensively documented with photos and notes. A book will then be made that will go along with the painting to explain it in full.

The image below is actually made up of three different paintings but I needed to use them to show the way it will basically go.
